Bush was not only married to one of our contemporary presidents, but was also a mother to one (“Barbara Bush”). This shows me that she was a strong woman, capable of fulfilling her duties as a president’s wife, and later, mother to one. According to the article “Barbara Bush”, she was known for her quick wit and fiery personality, which she had to heavily moderate after her husband decided to run for the presidency. When I picture the first lady, I don’t picture someone who has a hard time controlling her temper, which I’m sure made things interesting at the White House.
In her speech, “For the Equal Rights Amendment” Shirley Chisholm addresses her views on securing women’s equality to ensure women have better opportunities. She is an American politician, educator and author that became the first black woman elected to the United States Congress. Chisholm supports her claims about equal rights for women by using examples of statistics to prove a point. Her purpose is to persuade her audience that women in America are neglected by equal rights and excluded from things that men are not. Throughout her deliverance she expressed an inspiring and informative tone to uplift her audience so that Congress can make a change for women.
Therein, she expressed her ideas about women 's suffrage. She gave a talk to encourage American men and women to give political rights to women. In her speech, she states that both men and women are created equal and hence due to this equality women should have political rights too. Throughout her speech she emphasizes the discrimination against women, using the right to vote, the roles in marriage, and unequal wages as her evidence.
Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke at the U.N 4th World Conference on September 5th, 1995 in Beijing, China. She discussed the approval of women worldwide in regards to decision making, poverty ,violence against women, and the separation of women's rights and human rights. Many people, mostly women, strongly agree with Hillary. She definitely appealed to the women who believe in equality. In her speech, “Women’s Rights are Human Rights,” First Lady Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton discusses the importance of fighting for women’s rights, as she argues they and human rights are one and the same. Clinton uses rhetoric, such as logic, empathy, and credibility, along with some propaganda to convince her audience of her point. The speech was given at the Fourth World Conference on Women on September 5, 1995 in order to convince people to stand up for women throughout the world and to respect their roles in society. Clinton supported women’s rights long before her speech. She had always been involved politically, first by being the president of the Young Republican’s club at her school (Harris).
Susan B. Anthony, a woman who was arrested for illegally voting in the president election of 1872, in her “On Women's Right to Vote” speech, argues that women deserve to be treated as citizens of America and be able to vote and have all the rights that white males in America have. She begins by introducing her purpose, then provides evidence of how women are citizens of America, not just males by using the preamble of the Constitution, then goes on about the how this problem has became a big problem and occurs in every home in the nation, and finally states that women deserve rights because the discrimination against them is not valid because the laws and constitutions give rights to every CITIZEN in America. Anthony purpose is to make the woman of America realize that the treatment and limitations that hold them back are not correct because they are citizens and they deserve to be treated like one. She adopts a expressive and confident tone to encourage and light the hearts of American woman. To make her speech effective, she incorporates ethos in her speech to support her claims and reasons.
She does a great job of explaining her point to her audience by repeating her main point over and over again. However, this speech was given twenty years ago, nothing was changed. At the time when Clinton gave her speech, it may not have been appreciated that much by the society. However, she mentioned this speech again in 2008, and this time, many more people came to know the reality of how women are being treated in other countries. Her speech was also considered influential in women’s rights movement.

Catt’s purpose is to convince Congress that it is time for woman suffrage. She adopts a confident tone , uses direct quotations, and appeals to logos in order to convince Congress that it is time for woman suffrage. In her speech, Thatcher used rhetorical techniques to show the strength and principles of Reagan and project those values onto the American people. To project the ideas of strength and firm ideals, Thatcher used repetition, elevated syntax and the tone of optimism and sincerity to convey her message. In the beginning of the speech, Thatcher used repetition to show what Reagan had accomplished in his lifetime.

In the Ted Talk Why gender equality is good for everyone- including men, The speaker Michael Kimmel talked about how he wants to recruit men to support gender equality. He acknowledged his experience being a white, straight, middle-class male and how his privilege has been invisible to him his whole life. He goes on to say how when talks to men about gender equality, for some the light bulb goes off but, then they feel the need to take it upon themselves to makes changes and to talk to women about their oppression. He talks about another group of men that work to actively resist gender equality and sees it as a bad thing for men. He also talks about men and their sense of entitlement, he goes as far as to give an example of when he was on a TV show to opposite of four white men, and the title of the show was "A Black Women Stole My Job".
Introduction On September 4th, 2012, the First Lady Michelle Obama gave a speech about the values of the American Dream.
