Analyzing The Search For Identity In Frank Peretti's 'The Oath'

Whoosh! ☺ This is the sound of Maggie Bly getting knocked off her feet by a supernatural force in the book The Oath written by Frank Peretti. Maggie Bly was kicked out of Harold Bly’s house because of an affair with Cliff. The town is very superstitious about a supposed dragon that lives at the peak of the mountains. This dragon apparently killed Cliff and Maggie. I believe something more sinister is affecting Hyde Valley. I think Harold Bly; the owner of Hyde Valley. I think he has something to do with the murders. The search for identity starts with Steve the photographer and biologist. Steve tries to find his true identity while searching for information on his dead brother, Cliff. When Steve went to Old Town for clues on the dragon he tried to understand why the town doesn’t like to talk about treacherous events from the past. While investigating, Harold’s hired goons spotted him and reported his presence. “You’re under arrest, you have the right to remain silent.” (Peretti 214). The sheriff Tracy Ellis got a call from Harold about Steve trespassing. Old Town is seen as the Devil’s Playhouse by the Hyde’s Valley townspeople. Tracy Ellis is the sheriff that arrested Steve for trespassing on Old Town owned by Harold Bly. “ Harold Bly’s spy’s caught Steve and Harold reported it to Tracy. Tracy has told Steve in the past to drop the case of his brother’s death multiple times. Tracy looks for the truth in how Steve keeps going deeper into the case that’s already been closed. “Steve, a bear killed your brother.” (Peretti 290). Tracy wants to know why Steve won’t tell her about his trespassing and what he’s got himself into. Steve knows something is going on with Harold and his goons. During the meeting with Steve, Tracy, Collins, and Harold; Steve try’s to understand Harold’s point of view of why Harold wants his property
