Ancient Middle East and Ancient Egypt had different views on the afterlife. Egypt had a positive view of the afterlife. “Egyptians believed the Afterlife would be much like Earth” ( Ellis and Esler 53). Egyptians looked up at the afterlife as another Earth. They didn’t view the afterlife as something bad. They worshipped their gods with everything. The would sacrifice for them to keep them happy allowing them to have the positive outlook of the afterlife. On the contrary, Ancient Middle East had a negative outlook on the afterlife. “Sumerian had a negative outlook on the afterlife” (Cornell Notes). Sumerians had believed that the gods were evil. Sumerians had that outlook that gods were selfish and didn’t care. Their look on the gods caused this negative view on the afterlife. Egypt had class rankings. “ Egypt had a social hierarchy where Pharaohs are top and slaves are on bottom” (Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia). People saw their Pharaohs as a human form of god. Gods were very important to them which is why the Pharaohs are on top. Slaves were at the bottom where they had no rights. Each class except the Pharaohs had looked up to and needed the class above them. The social hierarchy kept the region going. In the same way, Ancient Middle East had a social structure almost the same way as Ancient Egypt. The Ancient Middle East people looked up to kings. “Kings were on the upper level than anyone else” (Ancient Near East). Social structure allowed Ancient Middle East to thrive. Social structures allow for the civilization to be controlled. The same way Ancient Egypt had looked up to these one high and almighty person the Middle Easter had their kings.
