Well, to be quite frank; I knew little about ancient Greece and Rome before embarking on this course. I’ve heard and read stories in the past and when I was in college but it’s nothing to what I have learnt so fare in this course and the previous. I am very pleased by the wealth of knowledge I have received of ancient Greece and the Romans. I now understand were we got our classical influences from, which has been copied and adapted in the 21 century. I thought Rome was all about old buildings and a place in the desert. Now, I am bombarded with a wealth of knowledge of the two cities. For example, I know Rome is the capital of Italy, but I didn’t know that they were masters in their craft and art. They believed in power and they fought many battles and wars, so that they could have control, protect enlarge their empire. There also fought civil wars to gain control and to have dominion and power. Here some of the wars fought by the Romans against the Carthage were the Punic Wars from 264 BC to 146 BC.

Greece is said the be the birthplace of Western civilization and is a country in south eastern Europe with Athens its capital. I remember growing up, I wasn’t so interested in these big crazy style architecture, which carried on but stopped at some point. So now I really appreciate learning about their cultures and how they expressed what they were going through in their buildings. I think this is so incredible, how many of the buildings we see today bears some classical styles from the Greek and Roman architecture.
