When it comes to name an artist that is not just widely known but iconic and innovative as well, one person should come to mind and that person is Andy Warhol. Warhol not only had a special talent but he had his own technique and style that was simply unique from any other artists at the time. His incorporation of iconic figures, familiar objects, and a wide variety of vibrant colors made him what I believe the founding father of what we know today as pop art. In my opinion, one thing for sure is that Andy Warhol is one of the most famous, if not the most famous artist of contemporary art of the 20th century. In this paper, I will provide many examples and my reasons for why I believe he is the most famous postmodern day contemporary artist. I believe that Andy Warhol did not make pieces that would be described or viewed as just “ordinary art”. Plagens states, “Warhol’s enormous body of work-paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints, photographs and films-resonates far beyond the confines of art” (52). In other words, his pieces are beyond what was then and maybe even before that would have been viewed as just being “bland” art. So, what makes me think that he is the most famous contemporary artist of the postmodern era? I think it’s because of his unique technique and his creative thinking. With his intentions to use everyday objects, people, and a wild color palate, that is what makes Andy Warhol a truly unique artist and what contemporary art should be all about. We should all be able to thank him for leading the path for us because he has inspired the future generation of artists to come up with new and creative ways to define what we know today as contemporary
