Ella Aerts Period 5 Your Inner Fish Discussion Answers Chapter 1 - Finding Your Inner Fish Neil and his colleagues focused on rocks from 375 million years ago because fossils from 360 million years ago were amphibians with necks and four legs. However rocks that are 380 million years old looked more like fish we know today, with fins and scale. So, it made sense that they would find the transitioning fossils in rocks that was 375 million years old.
Faith Heathcote Period 7 November 5, 2015 We have studied three stories: the short story “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, Freak the Mighty, a novel, by Rodman Philbrick, and Simon Birch, a film, by Mark Johnson. These three stories are conveyed through very different forms, but they share many character traits, literary devices, and themes. Doodle, Kevin and Simon all have disabilities. This makes life a challenge for them, but they each have a special friend to help.
For my extra credit book report, I chose to read “Your Inner Fish” by Neil Shubin. Neil Shubin is a highly regarded paleontologist, and is extremely qualified to have written this book. Shubin studied at Harvard university and earned his Ph.D. in organismic and evolutionary biology in 1987. He also studied at Columbia University, as well as Berkeley. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2011.

We spotted about 150 grebes at 8:41am and saw more greebes at 8:45am. The sun tried to come out at 8:50am. Then we finally got out of the fog and started to get our bearings. On our left was Isla Tiburon and on our right was Isla Cholludo. Yesterday Ami had a class on fish identification,
Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s Blackfish (2013) and Louie Psihoyos’ The Cove (2009) both use music and sound effects to reinforce and compliment the visuals, keep the audience engaged, and highlight conflict, as well as employ interviews and archived footage to add a degree of credibility to their films and persuade the audience to sympathise with their cause. Both documentaries focus on animal rights activism, more specifically Blackfish is centred around the captivity of killer whales at SeaWorld, whereas The Cove addresses the mass dolphin slaying in Japan. Both Cowperthwaite and Psihoyos use music and sound effects in their documentaries to reinforce and compliment the visuals. For example, at the beginning of Blackfish, a recorded 9/11 emergency call complements a visual transcript, giving the
As he came out of the darkness of the pond and the sun caught his shiny scales and the light reflected orange and yellow and red. He swam very close to our feet. His body was round and smooth in the clear water. We watched in silence at the beauty and grandeur of the great fish" (120). When Antonio sees the Golden Carp the first time, he could not believe his eyes that he had saw a pagan god.
“Kept in a bowl, the goldfish will remain small. With more space, the fish can grow double, triple, or quadruple its size.” This phrase inspired Edward Bloom (Big Fish) to leave his hometown to explore the big city. While goldfish size depends on water quality and availability of food, goldfish are indeterminate growers, meaning they do not stop growing until they die. While I have stopped growing physically, my desire to learn never will.
“Rockfish come in more than 100 species and many different shapes, sizes and color patterns.” Typically, radiant! Few other organisms live here too.
However about one year ago my grandma and grandpa bought a house on Gull Lake so that’s where I fish now. Whenever i’m over there I grab my fishing pole and start fishing. I have caught a lot of Sunfish in my days of fishing. They have a black dot on both sides that’s how I know when I have caught a
“ Whoever draws too close, of guard, and catches the Sirens’ voices in the air -- no sailing for him, no wife rising to meet him, no happy children beaming up at their father’s face…” (272). Sirens, female creatures who lure men to death by their voices, is one of monsters Odysseus meets on his way back home. I have heard this story long time ago and really interested in it so I decide to do Siren for my art pieces. I choose picture because I can give viewer a direct image of what the scene is like and they can get better idea what’s happening on there.
The novel makes a naturalism argument about ambition in that humans are ever reaching for that which they do not have, but are thwarted by factors out of their control. Starting at the top of the social hierarchy, the story illustrates that the wealthy will stay comfortable within their class, take advantage of others’ desire to ascend all the while barring them entrance to the upper echelons of society. The Buchanans, that exemplify the upper class, are unsatisfied with both their marriage and station in life and seek happiness outside of their social class. In this, the reader is constantly bombarded with color symbolism when it comes to these two.
Within the first group, Haplochrominae, there are two subgroups. Both subgroups require different environments which is something that you should consider when setting up the tank. The first one, known as Haps, consists of open water and sand dwelling species. The second subgroup is known as mbuna, which means “rockdwellers”. The Mbuna fish are smaller, and both sexes are often brightly colored, though in some species the females may be brownish overall.
I pulled back and had the fish hooked. I knew it had to be a big fish because it was hard to reel in. After about 25 or 30 minutes the fish was almost at the doc. Then I started to pull it out of the water and that’s when I realized it was a shark. The shark was about two feet long and weighed 45 pounds.
