APUSH Unit 2 Long Essay In 1603, the English were still a small rising nation, poorer than most, and less powerful than Spain and France. Although the British colonies settled in the Americas late, they quickly became a dominant force in the new world. After they acquired their first permanent settlement in Jamestown, VA in 1607, the British became attracted to greater power and more land, which was the first building block of perhaps the most powerful European nation of the time period. “This we’ll defend”: This is the motto of the United States Army, as well as the 3rd Infantry Regiment, also known as the “Old Guard.” These are the sentinels who guard the tombs of three unknown soldiers: One never identified from the First World War; another that never found his family from World War Two; and another shot down and never recognized in Korea. Laying a wreath on the tomb of these three unknown soldiers is considered synonymous as laying a wreath on every unknown and unidentified soldier and one of the highest honors for a United States citizen.

The oppressive past that the Scots-Irish faced in their home country optimalized the isolated geography of the Greater Appalachian region, as they were able to construct a society that was rooted in individual liberty as opposed to materialism. When living in Great Britain, the Scots-Irish were forced out due to a large increase in rent put upon by the landlords. As noted by a Scot-Irish in American Nations, “We having been, before we came here, so much oppressed and harassed by under landlords in our country, from which we with great losses, dangers, and difficulties came [to]... this foreign world to be freed from such oppression” (Woodard 104). Thus, as evidenced, the Borderlanders travelled to the New World in search of a life free of oppression.

After centuries of stereotypes and racism, Indigenous Peoples are finally getting a meaningful voice in the world. Indigenous Peoples have suffered from adversity, misrepresentation, and cultural genocide unlike any other racial group. A stark majority of their stories are told from a Western point of view, utilising the “stereotypical Indian” (Reel Injun) giving them little to no merit in the eye of true Indigenous culture. A new median had to be developed and become relevant to allow the spread of truth and history, henceforth over time First Peoples texts and cinema are becoming an effective way to obtain a full personal representation of Indigenous culture and struggles. The discrimination and segregation of First Nations people was a

I grew up in Long Beach, New York which is located approximately 45 minutes away from Manhatten. Long Beach is a tourist town and our small four square mile town doubled in population, from 33,000 to 60,000 people over the summer months. Growing up by the beach was something I took for granted at the time because I was not aware of what a luxury that was until I moved to the middle of Indiana for college. There are two main things you can do in Long Beach and that is going to the beach or eating out. Other than that the town is fairly uneventful.

It was also mentioned in the article that the youth who were offered jobs had been arrested 43 percent fewer times than their peers. Sara Heller was in charge of this study called One Summer Plus taking place at the University of Pennsylvania. For these teenagers it truly was a plus to not only their summer, but for their life.
