Animal entertainment cruelty is a worldwide problem. Humans and animals both share the same emotions and should be treated as so. People often forget their feelings and go on to neglect animals. Even though people benefit from animals, they should stop being used for human entertainment purposes, because animals are living souls with feelings and should be respected as equals. The cause of animal abuse is all on the owner’s responsibility. There are some animals that are more likely to be abused than others. One cause of an animal’s probability of being abused more could be because of their environment. For example, factory farming abuses cows and horses for their labor (Dawn). There is conspiracy saying zoos, and or any other animal entertainment facility abuse their animals while training them. Circus trainers are accused of thinking that striking their animals will discipline them and teach a lesson. “Baby Benjamin’s trainer struck him with a bullhook all over the head, quite forcefully and repeatedly. It was not pretty”(Jones). It was found by Feild’s lawyer of Ringling brothers that the elephants would be chained to boxcars for days, and was compared to wearing a seat belt for days(Jones). When trainers do abuse these animals it does not teach them to listen, it makes the animals scared. Which causes the animal to refuse to learn new tricks, which then makes the trainer even more frustrated. Though zoos have no witness of abuse, people have mixed feelings about how they treat animals. There is a side of people that can be manipulated into thinking that these animals are happy so these people might not notice the reality of the situation. Zoos never tell people information about how their animals were found. Therefore people do not know if their animals were captured or rescued, which could cause more issues with animal rights against zoos. Others that oppose of zoos argue that their purpose is to inbreed animals and lessen their likely of advancing back into the wild (Stoddart). It could be that the audience and people responsible for the animals may overlook the idea of morality and focus on profit. There are many reasons for the demand of animal entertainment. This is influenced by media and culture. “Both have undermined the status and rights of animals in relation to humans”(Stoddart). The problem with the media is that it can manipulate people into following trends, or thinking these topics are ok when they are not. When the media shows positivity in animal entertainment, people usually demand more. And the more demand for animal entertainment the more animals get abused. All hope is not lost because there are still people with morals that oppose of animal entertainment. These people who support animal rights believe that animals should be treated humanely and not as the human gain for one’s own purpose, or entertainment (Gale). That would mean no zoos, aquarium, circuses, animal products like food or clothing. There are many animal rights group that people become part of to share and support this idea of animal rights. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is just one of many groups. Some things PETA might do to promote animal rights may be not eating meat, protesting, or even wearing fur.
