Animal behavior, the scientific study of how animals interact with each other and their environment, is a multidisciplinary field that combines biology, psychology, ethology, ecology, and many other related domains. Some animal behaviorists work as animal trainers, zoologists, veterinarians, or researchers, while others find a career in education. However, a major component often overlooked is the method that animal behaviorists use to communicate information to one another. To gain a greater understanding on how this is accomplished, we conducted an interview with a professional in the field. In conducting this interview, all of the members of our group had at least one thing in common: the animal behavior major. Fortunately, we had the opportunity to speak with Sue Lewis, Ph.D. and professor of biology, animal behavior, and marine biology classes at Carroll University. The questions we asked related to communication and research in the field of animal behavior advice and knowledge that Dr. Lewis provided throughout the interview.

When you attend an Animal Behavior Society meeting, the program is usually informal, but if you are asking an unknown researcher about their project, you should be formal. Whenever you meet someone new, being professional establishes that you understand the material and care about it.
