Abuse and violence is not just toward humans. There is a connection between animal cruelty and domestic violence and child abuse. 88% of families that are abused also found that pet abuse has occurred. The good news is that you can end animal abuse and cruelty if detected right away. In contrast, not all signs of cruelty are always visible. Therefore, the question I am seeking an answer to is determining ways to help abused animals and ways people are abusing animals so that we can help prevent animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is not just physical violence; it is also emotional violence. When volunteering at shelters I have witnessed the traumatic aftermath of animal abuse. For example, I have seen animals come in as thin as paper, and shaking like a leaf. As well as animals beaten so close to death that their ribs have been broken and fear in sight of a human. …show more content…

The most well know factor of physical abuse is when the owner repeatedly beats the animal with his or her hands. Physical beatings can also be with objects such as, belts, chains, and whips. Other types of physical abuse are wounds on the body, such as, marks from from knives, guns, and matches. Furthermore, missing hair, limping, leaving animals without food or water for a long period of time, extremely thin animals, tick and flea infestations, and leaving animals outside in drastic weather conditions. Another factor of animal cruelty is emotional abuse. Emotional abuse is when you either scare the animal by not taking care of it or when the animal is very aggressive toward other people. So, if you leave an animal chained up in the dark without interaction the animal may become violent toward others. Likewise, if you leave an animal to die without food or water the animal will coward in fear and be fearful toward others.
