My Social Issue My social issue is about animal rights in Brevard County Florida. Animal rights is defined as, “the belief that animals have an intrinsic value separate from any value they have to humans, and are worthy of moral consideration” (Basic Tenets of Animal Rights, 2015). The local issue is that people in Brevard County are not considerate of animals. There are news reports of dogs and cats getting thrown out of windows, people harassing sea turtles, and other horrible stories. There have been reports of animal rights being disregarded in 2011, 2013, and currently in 2015. There are many organizations that are to support animal rights, in and out of Brevard County. The Conflict perspective came from Karl Marx’s comment on capitalism, which deals with how social interactions happen throughout conflict. “Conflict theory explains social structure and changes in it by arguing that actors pursue their interests in conflict with others and according to their resources for social organization” (Conflict Theory, 2015). The theory has to do with people shaping themselves based on the competition of others. Conflict causes different groups to create allies and enemies, separating people that can possibly cause violence. The main conflicts are between the wealthy and the poor, working people. Max Weber also had assistance with the conflict theory. He changed different things that Marx had stated and created the Conflict perspective. Conflict theory today is still very prevalent. People with power are even having conflict with others with mutual power. The government and other social systems today are what keep social order; the conflict keeps the balance between

The bad is that most people still don’t realize that this is an issue, so they are doing nothing to make it better. They see that they’re doing nothing wrong, so of course they feel they have nothing to change or help. There are programs in Brevard County such as the humane society and other small organizations that have their main goal of protecting animals and making sure they’re safe where they’re at. The humane society is becoming a no kill shelter organization, and they do overnights to make sure that animals, like dogs, are going to be welcome and safe in the house of the possible adopters. Conflict perspective would try to find a way to balance human power and animal rights to resolve the conflict of the issue. The conflict perspective focuses on power, and with this issue, the only ones with power are humans and to fix the issue, this needs to change. Of course animals don’t have the words or actions to help fix it, but people who care do. Conflict perspective would say that this would be the best way to help the issue at hand, have people with power use it to express the need for protecting animal
