I personally appreciate utilitarianism because it makes sense to do what is best for the group or that which produces the most happiness. In my opinion, it is considered so radical because of its collectivistic approach in a more individualistic culture. Furthermore, it goes against religious doctrine since it does not follow a defined doctrine that dictates whether something is right or wrong. While I appreciate its logic, I do not agree with the utilitarian stance on all issues. For instance, I disagree with parts of its stance on nonhuman animals. As an animal-lover, I do think that “humans and nonhumans are equally entitled to moral concern.” (Rachels, pg. 105). Because of this, any kind of animal testing should be evaluated for suffering
