Mankind shares a psychological phenomenon known as reason where it is “the intellectual ability to apprehend the truth cognitively, either immediately in intuition, or by means of process of inference.” (Philosophy pages) Humans being gifted to be given such ability to be able to go through reasonable circular thinking may in turn be burdened by questions. Such vary nature of reason, even if it means to surpass all powers, cannot be ignored nor answered. Some may argue that it is ethical as human benefits could be gained through the process of animal testing and such benefits to human beings outweighs the harm done to animals. However, on the other hand, some may argue that such doings are unethical due to the sufferings it has caused to the animals and by inflicting such pain on them is itself violating the rights of an animals, which is morally wrong. In such cases of ethical issues, trusting reason in pursuit of knowledge may be flawed as reason can be clouded by other ways of knowing, thus affecting the validity of reasoning. Being positioned in a situation where it comes down to dealing with such sensitive ethical issues, may involve emotions, where it is almost inevitable for reason to ignore this component of human nature. Emotions as another WOK, has the ability to cloud a person’s judgement of what is right and wrong. Some may be violently against the act of inflicting pain onto the animals and thus find it immoral. Hence some people may think that the use of animal experimentation in the development of pharmaceutical drugs is wrong and may be able to put forward arguments based on reason to support or oppose the use of animal experiments independently on how one feel about the situation.
