Walking with a Hunched Back? What It Actually Is?
The spine is the most important structure of your body. The spinal region of your body supports your body by holding itself up and is able to process information from the brain to the spinal cord giving us coordination, function, and feeling. When back posture goes awry this condition gets worse and causes inflammatory back pain it is referred to as Ankylosing Spondylitis. Ankylosing Spondylitis is an inflammatory auto-immune disease that can cause some or all of the spinal region to fuse together. The spine loses flexibility and the end result is a hunched posture or stance.
A patient first must understand the spine and pelvic region before analyzing the severity of their condition. A patient’s …show more content…

The entire spinal region has been compressed. The nucleus populous of each vertebrae bulge but they do not leak out of the annulus fibrous. The patient will have difficulty sitting, sleeping, and lifting any heavy objects. The abnormal back will form a permanent “hunched” position in a later stage. If left untreated, the patient’s vertebrae will eventually fuse from the anterior side only and have a “fixed” permanent hunched position meaning that the spine will remain hunched and the majority of a patient’s spine flexibility has been taken away. . This term is referred to as kyphosis, when the spine is in a permanent fixed posture ( (Walsh, 2015`). Vertebral articulations form from the cervical region down to the sacroiliac region. In late stages, rib bones are disrupted and can interrupt lung capacity for …show more content…

Chronic pain will most likely be lifelong and taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs will most likely be issued. This lifelong disease can be treated with medications to relieve the pain so that a patient can be able to bend, lift, and exercise regularly. Increased exercise activity must occur to ease the tension of the spine, back, and other affected joints. Pain is relieved and the stiffness of the joints are less tense. The toughest part of this disease if a patient has it is standing in correct posture. The back will become inflamed and will result in painful movements but if the symptoms need to be corrected and issued, than standing straight up can be the best beneficial way to relieve sharp intense pain and result in better sleeping habits. Physical therapy is an alternative source for treatment. It is not required unless a patient has no known history of exercising daily. Physical therapy may or may not decrease the symptoms but it is still considered an option for some people. In rare cases surgery may be may enforced if symptoms don’t improve. Joint replacement surgery may be enabled to relieve pain in areas except for the spinal region. Hip, knee, and shoulder replacements are successful in improving joint movement but it is difficult to do joint replacement on the spine. In such cases, spinal joint replacement surgery must be done by a surgeon who is well
