A famous quote said by Anne Frank was, “The world will keep turning without me, and I can’t do anything to change events anyway” (“Anne Frank Biography”). When Anne Frank wrote this quote in her diary, she was trying to say that she can hear what is happening around her and even though she wants to help people who are out there suffering, she cannot do anything about it. She wants it all to end and time to freeze, but no matter what she prays for, what she hopes for, and what she wants, the world will keep turning whether she is ready for the next day or not; the next day will come. Annelies Frank, also known as Anne Frank, was born on June 12, 1929, in a Germany city called Frankfurt. She had an older sister named Marot and the two sisters remained with each other throughout their time in all the concentration camps. (Lewis 8). Anne went to Sixth Montessori School to receive her education (Rosenblatt). “Anne was full of life and was also asking questions, but no one could resist her sense of fun.” When Adolf Hitler became the Fuhrer the lives of many Jews, including the Franks, were changed. Anne and her family decided to move and their new home was an apartment on the Merwedeplein in Amsterdam. Anne made numerous friends with the other Jewish families that had also fled Germany to escape Hitler’s power. All around them were horrible slogans about Jews which were scrawled on the windows of Jewish owned stores along with stories of punishments and beatings in the streets. Anne’s dad, Otto Frank, decided to move his family to the Netherlands because it was a safer environment. When they moved, their whole family had to learn to speak Dutch since they were surrounded by Dutch people. They believed they would be safer and they were, but only for a short time. Anne once again made many friends in her new environment but her best friend was Hanneli. They enjoyed playing hopscotch on the wide sidewalks and racing along on their bicycles and scooters. Hide-and-seek, plus tag, were some of their favorite games to play on the grassy playgrounds outside of the Franks apartment. During the winter, Anne and her friends favorite activity was to go ice skating (Lewis 9-13). Anne’s 13th birthday is when she received and started writing her diary.
