Malcolm x, a muslim scholar who dedicated his life to finding peace between blacks and whites. Malcolm x being a black muslim, hated the terms slave, nigger, and white America. Malcolm x devoted his life to contributing to the nation of Islam, but he also showed the blacks another side. The followers of Martin Luther King were taught to be non-violent and allow themselves to get beaten up by police and other whites, Malcolm x told his followers to defend themselves if anyone was to attack them. A few years before Malcolm x was assassinated he met someone named Alex Haley, a black reporter. Malcolm x was very cautious about Haley and his goals on writing an autobiography about him. Malcolm was assassinated in a ballroom, while giving a speech to the black community. Malcolm x was arrested and convicted on burglary charges, and was sent to prison for 10 years. Malcolm became a whole new man while in prison, he told Haley “Once a man has been to prison, he never looks at himself or at other people the same again”(399). Malcolm was explaining to Haley of how much he changed once he was sent to prison, he realised how much he is ruining his life by all the drugs, stealing, and lying he's doing. Malcolm x told both Haley and all of his followers that, converting to Islam was one of the biggest turning points in his life, and it basically made him who he was. Haley and Malcolm got in a argument because of Malcolm's choice on leaving the nation of islam. Malcolm didn't want anything about Elijah Muhammad to be in his autobiography, but Haley argues that if any changes were to be made the book would lose its officality and Haley wanted the true store to be told not something Malcolm liked or disliked. Malcolm x was shot and killing in February 21, 1965 in the ballroom while giving a speech. Alex Haley was forced to finish the autobiography on his own. Malcolm and Haley were very close to being finished with the autobiography Alex Haley didn't have any struggles finishing
