To conclude, Anthony Van Dyck’s Icarus and Deadalus painting has many interesting factors about it that make it a memory aid. The moral behind the story is to never be too ambitious and to always be cautious. Icarus had made the mistake of not listening to his father and had flown too fast and too close to the sky and was later blinded by his abilities, which lead to his death. In other words Icarus was so blinded by ambition that it had ‘killed him’. This painting reminds society to always be cautious and to not end up like Icarus. It is also a great reminder on how far art has grown and learn from ancient Greek art in it’s techniques and evolution in mastering the human body.
