They explain that social construction theory is how individuals are perceived and characterized by the large culture. Sometimes the way these individuals perceive comes with stereotypes that either positive or negative. The article talks about those in power receive greater proportion the resource and is perceive in a better light. This only because they have political power, and they are the lawmaker within the society.
In Hector Tobar’s, The Barbarian Nurseries, he brings to light the personal and political anger directed at Araceli by those who do not even know her. In a wider scope, the anger is directed towards undocumented Mexican immigrants who are living in the United States. Through the character’s ideas on illegal immigrants, Hector Tobar implies that the private and public anger towards undocumented Mexican immigrants, stem from the assumption that they are all dangerous, fear of cultural change, and their impact on the economy. The United States is known as the nation of immigrants. It is a place where different cultures meet and diverge. However, despite being known as the nation of immigrants, the Americans have been also known for their sentiments against the immigrants. Anti-immigrant sentiment has long been a part of the culture in the United States.
I honestly feel if they cherish and represent the United States then they should be let off a little bit. They do at least fill in the jobs that others won’t do. Immigrants do take care of our lawns, work in restaurants, fix our roofs repair some of our streets and work hours in the winter time when people need to get to school, work and other places. They do snow removal and keep it safe for families, when they have families at home waiting for them. If they are making money, instead of doing nothing then, I feel they have every right to be here.

Throughout the book, it shows how shalom is breaking, but towards the end of the book it shows that the shalom is getting healed. One of the main theme is discrimination, segregation and racial injustice and throughout the book, there are various examples of shalom breaking through racial injustice and discrimination.

In some people’s minds, they automatically assume yes, but in reality, it’s a no, immigrants tend to perform labor, and do minimal jobs that Americans don’t, and won't do, so they mistake that as immigrants taking ‘Americans job’, but it’s actually a missed opportunity. One reason for people not taking the jobs is because of the hours, the next reason is the pay might not satisfy a legal immigrant, and people born in America, another reason is it wouldn’t be able to support a regular American family, but they will be able to support an illegal immigrant. is because immigrant workers are willing to do most of the jobs Americans do not want to do. Most of these jobs are manual labor like building houses, construction or other things that fall under that category. I think that people who have made it here and done the whole process legally deserve to be here but the ones who are here illegally need to go back to where they came from. It makes it possible for people to be able to improve their living conditions because if they have their own company or business they can hire immigrants and they will work for much cheaper than the normal American. This also hurts a lot of Americans because they get fired when immigrants are willing to work for wages way lower than what these people are normally used to.
