A long time ago, people who were Jewish had to face a crucial discrimination ever since others blamed them for killing Jesus. Nobody exactly knows what the truth was but believes in religion books where the elders’ deformed words of Judaism were recorded. Based on the “Sister Rose’s Passion” documentary, Rose Thering — a Roman Catholic Dominican Religious Sister — questioned this false belief towards the Jewish people and dreamed of a world without religious prejudice, wishing teachers to educate their students to make her dream a reality. No one, especially including the Jews, should be raced or hurt by any opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. Throughout the movie, Sister Rose encourages everyone to “Be an Upstander, Not a Bystander” for the Jews.

This can be anything from flying out politicians to Israel, using their own members to contact politicians who have similar interests as them, and even mentoring students at their local student government. All of this to muster up pro Israeli sentiments from the current politicians as well as the future generation. These techniques work so effectively according to polling 46 percent of Americans are more sympathetic to Israel whereas only 12 percent did for Arabs. This statistic is a key reason as to why Americans recognize Israel as a state instead of Palestine. The A.I.P.A.C is instrumental to the amount of military aid Israel gets.

Classical and modern Anti-Semitism Anti-Semitism is one of the oldest and longest racism in the human history. It has existed in various forms in the world since the ancient Roman Empire and has been such a large subject in racist history. According to Oxford English Dictionary, Anti-Semitism is “hostile to or prejudice against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group.” In 1879, journalist Wilhelm Marr named the “Anti-Semitism” designate as the hatred of Jew, and also criticism of various liberal, cosmopolitan, and international political trends associated with Jews. We are generally known what Anti-Semitism is and how it affected in the past history such as Holocaust during World War II, then why we do not know much about it in the present.
Lady Gaga once said, “I think tolerance and acceptance and love is something that feeds every community.” A civilization’s success is shaped by their tolerance of other religions and lifestyles, as stated by Lady Gaga and proved by global history. Defined as letting different peoples continue to practice their religion and cultures, tolerance has occurred throughout both ancient and modern countries. On the other hand, intolerance is the disallowance of certain practices, which deteriorates civilizations and causes people to rebel. From the Mongolian Empire to Christian civilizations, tolerance usually occurs between a civilization’s leader and the civilians, as does intolerance shown in modern Iran.

One might ask how many Baltimore Jewish communities there are; whether The Associated represents one encompassing community, several communities, or one community among several; and, as the federation articulated its goal of Jewish continuity, how many communities this meant strengthening. Associated staff and lay leaders resist publicly recognizing differences. They describe the Baltimore Jewish community as uniquely homogeneous among American Jewish communities. It has long traditions and is both physically concentrated and socially cohesive. The generations in Baltimore Jewish families have grown up and done business together, they feel a strong attachment to the city, and the children stay in the community.
Now, anti-Semitism is not a big concern in Canada (Abella). On the other hand in the U.S., anti-Semitism in America has never come close to the amount of Jew-hatred in Nazi Germany. People took polls and concluded that many Americans looked upon Jews unfavorably. A big sign of anti-Semitism was anti-semitic leaders and movements on the edge of American politics being present, which included William Dudley Pelley’s Silver Shirts and Father Charles E. Coughlin, a radio priest. ("American Response to the Holocaust - World War II." ).
Stereotype Threat on College Campus To most of the Americans, education has a pivotal role in improving social mobility. It allows everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, background, to access equal ability and opportunity to succeed. However, it is really the case when our campus is full of stereotype threat? According to Whistling Vivaldi by Claude Steele, stereotype threat is the pressure or risk of conforming to negative stereotypes related to one’s identity. Distracted by the threat, we would perform much weaker in class, and choose to live on a much limiting life unconsciously.
Understanding and change were the main themes at an impassioned town hall discussion on Anti-Semitism at the University of Wisconsin. The town hall took place Tuesday night at Gordon Dining and Events Center. The discussion was planned in response to photos that appeared on the door of a student in Sellery Residence Hall. The photos were of an anti-Semitic nature, and when they went viral, people began to question the university’s response.
This event which focused on the Holocaust survivors was interestingly held in The Basilica of St. Mary’s, a catholic church. The purpose of this venue was to foster a healthy relationship with the Jewish community which have been fractured as a result of the atrocities and antisemitism perpetrated by the church in the past. The catholic spokesperson promoted ecumenism, encouraged by the Pope and opening the church facilities as one way to achieve that. This inclusivism was embraced by the Jewish community and reciprocated with gratitude.
While some students view the racial climate on DePauw’s campus as positive, the majority I had asked did not. The reasoning behind each answer differed, yet there was a consensus decision that there has recently been a negative racial climate on campus. There are many different theories as to how a campus may have a positive or negative racial climate, however some in particular accurately relate to DePauw’s campus. As previously discussed, the diversity of the student body has drastically increased, and some race relation theorists believe that this in itself is one of the main causes of racial tension.
University should be a place make all students feel safe and is a place to pursue higher quality of sharing and accepting knowledge. University is a part of public trust, which receive government support and taxes. Public trust has been established for a long time, for example “In 1960, California established a framework for public higher education in the state. It envisioned a University of California without tuition that guaranteed access for the top one-eighth of the state’s high school graduates, funded by taxpayers who believed in the university as a source of economic and social mobility.” (Mike) University is responsible for the state people to receive higher selective academic study.
