The word "Christ" is from the greek word Christos, which means the "anointed one". However, the root word is the greek word chrió, which means "to anoint" ; to anoint with oil. It refers to the anointing. When you put the two words together "anti and Christos" or even if you get down further to the root – anti chrió, it means "against the anointing". Not necessary just against Jesus Himself, but against the anointing.[1] The antichrists who are mentioned in 1 John 2:18,19 were former members of the 1st century church. Likewise, there are many "demon possessed counterfeit Christians" who crept into our churches through false conversions. They are a type of the antichrist. These individuals are sent by Satan to fight the anointing. Since the 1st century church walked at a much higher level of God's power, these counterfeit Christians could not flourish at the church. They could not face the anointing that was being manifested through the apostles. Hence, they had to leave the church. having a form of godliness but denying its power.
