Antigone, by Sophocles, depicts a tragedy that comes from defending one’s personal ideals versus others. Many characters in this play have shown support and resistance towards each other that lead to the death of some or extreme sorrow one can not recover from. This play has been well-known and well-taught throughout time. As time takes its toll on this play, there have been many interpretations and staging of this famous tragedy. I think if I had to stage this tragedy I would like to make it more modern and up to date. Instead of making this play based revolved around a kingdom of hierarchy, I would make this play revolve around a popular business that millions of people will follow and support. To make this setting more modern, the time should be relevant and recent. By doing this every character has evolved into a more effective being. Since the difference of time is drastically different, technology has gotten better, easier, and more suitable for everyday use. Now that every character has gotten updated and able to live in an era of technology, this play will revolve around a popular business that has many loyal followers and supporters. Just like in the original play, the character Kreon will own this company. Since this business has many loyal followers and supporters, the business Kreon owns is essentially a kingdom of people who will follow him. To prove that this business flourishes and is supported by many, the play will take place at headquarters of this business in Silicon Valley. Due to the different time era, the old ways are no longer considered and in practice. This means that when a practice of the old ways is done in the original play, the updated play will have to find a different way to show the same message and the same impact. A good example of this in effect, is the death of characters. Instead of the characters being killed, the difference is to get them fired and banished from the company. By having the characters banished from the company, this still shows the effect of the company no longer having the presence of the dead. The people who follow this business hear about this tragedy and spread the word on what happened. When word of such tragedy spreads, everyone feels the terrible feelings as if they have been
