In this growing world, people have learned to challenge rules and test boundaries to get what they want and to stand up for what they believe in. The play Antigone by Sophocles is an example of a story that tells an important moral of always doing what someone believes is right, despite the consequences. In the story, Antigone confidently gives her brother, Polyneices, a proper burial, despite her uncle Creon's wishes not to do so. Creon finds out and takes actions against Antigone and sentences her to death, resulting in turmoil for his family and city. Creon realizes what mistake he has made and knows that he has overused his power, but he was too late, people he loved died, and Creon had to suffer. This is the first real demonstration of bravery in the play and it is followed by many other acts of bravery from many different characters. In the beginning of the story, in the castle of Thebes, Antigone tells her sister Ismene that she is going to bury Polyneices and go against Creon’s directions to not give Polyneices a proper burial. Ismene reacts and says, “What? Challenge Creon to his face?” (Sophocles 193). Antigone is confident and even surprised that Ismene wasn't willing to join her in her protest. Creon is a tyrant that was power hungry, and too controlling of his family and the people who lived in his city. Antigone saw this overuse of power and could stand to bear it anymore. She had to bury her brother because that was what she believed was right. Another reason why Antigone was so against Creon’s decision to with held Polyneices from a proper burial was because she thought that it's not what the gods would have wanted, and that the gods are much more powerful that Creon. However, Creon didn't just affect Antigone, he affected his whole family, but in particular, his son Haemon, destined to marry Antigone, when he sent Antigone to
