Antigone Images In Antigone, one of the most powerful scenes is the death of Ismene and Antigone’s brother. The scene also develops the plot, along with the character’s varying personality traits. In the scene, Antigone travels to give her brother a proper burial. In the original scene, Ismene was not involved because she feared punishment. Because of Antigone’s actions, Creon punishes the family, which results in the death of many characters.
In the first picture, which is found at contains Ismene. The scene almost seems light hearted, but also has a darkness aspect to it. Mainly, because of the presence of crows, which are typically seen as evil, or unwanted. The scenery is how I expected the scene to look, but not the actual actions taking place. Some aspects surprise me. The crows, Ismene, and light coloration of the scene are the main aspects that surprise me. Ismene adds additional suspense and feeling to the image. The setting is different, as well as the mood. It appears that Antigone is in the mountains, as opposed to the grassfields in the first image. Also, the background is much darker, which gives the image a much more intense feeling. In the first image, the background was light. Furthermore, there is an absence of crows and Ismene. Personally, I don’t feel as if they are needed to make the scene serious. Overall, the mood in the second painting is very serious and dramatic, which I feel matches the scene better overall.
