Polynices and Eteocles fought for control of the kingdom and died by each other's hand in war. On their travels, Antigone's father had died and she returned to find her brothers dead. Her uncle, Creon, had taken the throne and because he favored Eteocles gave him a proper burial while leaving Polynices' body out to rot. She respected her brother and she went out to bury her brother. She was caught and sentenced to death.
Antigone is a tragedy play written by Sophocles. In the story, Antigone, a young woman, had requested permission from Creon, the king at the time, to have a proper burial for her brother, Polyneices; even though he was a traitor and the law forbids mourning for him. Creon had denied Antigone's request for the burial of her brother, however, Antigone had still carried out the burial. Unfortunately, she had been caught in her act, by the king’s guard, and brought before Creon.
Antigone is the strong-willed and stubborn daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta. Her argument is in opposition to her uncle, King Creon. Antigone is propelled by grief to unlawfully bury her brother. She argues that "I shall suffer nothing so great as to stop me dying with honor" (96-97). In her view, she believes that not burying her brother, dishonors both herself and her brother.
Antigone and her father Oedipus are very alike and different in a few ways. The things that occur to them both lead up to their deaths. For instance, Antigone defies the leader Creon which results in her death. Also, Oedipus and his wife Jocasta ignore the gods which causes Oedipus’s long life of suffering.
One way of how Creon represents the problematic nature of man-made laws is through his character. One characteristic of Creon that leads to his problematic man-made laws is that he is ruthless. Although Polyneices is said to have brought war on the State, he is still considered family. Even then he still shows no pity toward Polyneices. Creon leaves the boys body out for shame and to be eaten by wild animals.

In the story of Antigone, Creon shows the characteristics of a tragic hero, as he is the king he shows his self-confident and he does not recognize his flaws until the end of the story. All of this leads into his downfall in the tragedy and causes him to realized what he had done. Creon is a tragic hero because of his self-righteousness, his excessive pride, and he does not listen to the opinion of others.
