Good morning everyone. As you all know, I am Antony Doerr, the author of All the light we cannot see. It is my honour to win this year’s Pulitzer Prize. I would like to take a minute to express my gratitude to my family, friends, readers, and especially to my wife, Shauna. Thank you for supporting me, being there for me, and giving me strength. I remember the day when the Pulitzer winner was announced. Shauna was secretly watching the Pulitzer ceremony on our computer. Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris. Her father is a lock master at the Museum of Natural History. The museum has a lot of treasure, famous painting, and specimen.When the Nazi oc-cupies Paris, Marie-Laure and her father flee to Saint-Malo, with the most valuable and dangerous jewel in the world, the sea of flames, and live with her antisocial uncle. At the age of 6, Marie-Laure loses her vision. In order to compensate the loss of her eye-sight, her father builds a miniature model of their neighbourhood so she can memorize it by touching and navigating the model. Since she is blind, she spends most of her time at home reading braille books. Meanwhile, in Germany, a young boy, Werner, and his sister is growing up in an orphanage. Unintentionally, Werner and his sister found a radio in their orphanage. They are obsessed with the radio and insist on fixing it. Werner is very gifted with electronics and falls in love with radio. He soon becomes a well-known expert at building and fixing in his neighbourhood. Word gets around. Since Werner is a prodigy, he is assigned to track the resistance in an academy for Hit-ler Youth and is military trained. It demonstrates the evolution of human. Reading expands our interest and imagination in life. Through the process of reading literature, readers can learn new things and experience different places, cul-tures, or time periods that they can never access to. Lastly, reading is also a pleasura-ble activity. It allows readers to relax and escape from all the troubles in real life. I adore reading and writing. Every time I pick up a book and read, I feel like I have entered a whole new world. It relaxes me and refreshes my mind. Sometimes it gives me a whole new perspective. For those reasons, I think people should value literature as much as they value
