Antother Great Low Impact Development Of Green Water Systems

Antother great low impact development strategy is green roofs. Since green roofs are vegetated and have specifically selected plants, they can manage storm water. Green roofs will reduce the volume of storm water runoff by storing storm water and slowing the stormwater process ( Jackson, 2009) . It also promotes evapotranspirtation. Green roofs also save money by not needing to have land area management practices for storm water management as well. Moreover, Soil amendments, is another low impact development stratagy that is used to minimize impacts on soils by restoring infiltration. This can improve physical and biological characteristics . The amendments can range from lime, gypsum to mulch and top soil ( Sinnes & Manning 1979) .

Rain barrels are aboveground water storage. They receive all of the runoff from a building’s roof. Rain barrels is an excellent low impact development and can be easily made to anyones home. It is a barrel that is put on one side of a house with a hose out the top( ) . This connects the storm gutters …show more content…

This strategy is effective because the water will be evaoptranspired or infiltrated into soil (Al & Blowes, 2004) . This will help maintain water balance. Since this will provide a renewablee source of water, rainwater harvesting will help reduce the demand on water resources. Rainwater harvesting can consist of systems that are designed for indoor or outdoor. Stormwater harvesting is a very important system. It reuses water which runs off roofs and pavement areas. It can substitute main water supply. It can be used for things such as toilets or gardening. Natural drainage is another good way of implementing low impact development stategies. Natural drainage picks up storm water. The goal of the is strategy is to use vegetated areas (Trauth, 2011).This will extend run off paths and allow soils to treat and retain it. Natrual systems provide communities with many
