Revelation is the last New Testament book and the most different. It is a combination of an apocalypse, a prophecy and a composite of seven letters to the churches. Apocalypse comes from the Greek word apocalupsis (to take from what is being covered or concealed or unveiling) and is a revelation. Apocalyptic literature typically uses symbolic language and images to describe and represent realities about future times and events, often relating to ultimate devastation and a final outcome. As a prophecy, Revelation foretells future events, but it also speaks to the present.
