Apocalypse Now is a film set within the Vietnam War. It's about a soldiers mission to assassinate a colonel gone rogue. As he proceeds further into his mission, he experience the harsh realities of war. The movie was directed by Franic Ford Coppola and released in 1979. This movie is a historical action/drama. It tries to depict the harsh realities and make small critics on the Vietnam War. The film's purpose is to critic the war. More specifically, how the United States goal should have been an all out battle instead of a limited war. The movie takes place within Vietnam, around the time were troops are being mobilized. However there is more to the plot. The movie is a clear critic of the United States. I believe director Coppola's thesis is against a limited war. The movies thesis begins quiet vague as Willard's mission begins. The viewer gets a clue from the helicopter scene. It shows that the Americans were able to destroy a small village. However, they didn't really care much about the war itself. They were seeking thrills as shown by the general. He was looking to surf. This shows that American troops were not taking things seriously. They expect a quick end to the war. That's why they don't bother being careful. That's why there aren't a lot of troops being deployed at first either. It only shows a small group of men attacking a mid sized village. As the movie progresses, the real meaning becomes clearer. Where Coppola's thesis begins is with the French scene. The French were asked why they were still in a war damaged country. Why don't they go home? They answered furious by saying that their country had betrayed them. They believed that if their country wanted to win, they would have sent in
