It’s human nature to need to be a part of a community. Some people have their churches, some people have close-nit neighborhoods; I have my lacrosse team. I play varsity lacrosse at Rockford high school. Along with our routine of practicing and having games in the spring, we do many other activities to help the community that supports us. We volunteer to help set up whenever there is a fair in Rockford.
My husband and I coached teams and took them to tournaments everywhere. After I was done my school life I was a part of accreditation committee for BIA schools. I served on this committee for about 44 years until I retired. I still have loved ones who are alive and well today such as my son, cousins, and grandchildren. I wish I were still there with them and with the schools to help them, but maybe after hearing this you will go out and do something for your community.
This experience made me realize that I impact and I am a role model in so many children's lives and I try to live my life in a positive manner knowing that there are others people watching me like them. Some other ways that I use my athletic leadership as a platform in my civic involvement is in football we can volunteer at places like Hills and Dales or in track we have a service day when we go out to the other Holy Family schools and do yard work/ helps clean around the
The game has a way of taking away the pains of the outside world. For the entirety of my time on the ice, I’m not thinking about that big test I have coming up 3rd period the next day, I’m not thinking about the huge cliffhanger that season 4 of The 100 left me on. All I’m thinking about is the game, and what I need to do to help my band of brothers succeed.
During my short life, I have not had many life altering experiences; however, one thing that has changed me for the better is playing hockey. Since I started playing hockey in eighth grade it has been something I have become passionate about for various reasons. One reason is my love for the game in general, and more specifically for playing goalie, the one position that holds the balance of the scoreboard. The second reason is being a part of a team. This is important to me because it gives a strong sense of purpose to the player.
Coaches have many responsibilities on and off the field, however could you imagine what it would be like to be responsible for nine separate sport teams in addition to managing a budget and all the while preparing for and teaching classes? This is a typical daily duty of an athletic director. High School athletic directors are generally still classroom teachers who are responsible for monitoring the academic and graduation rates of student athletes, parents, and faculty to resolve problems . Athletic directors must be highly skilled at public relations.
One activity that has defiantly created a change in my life is ice hockey. I’ve been playing hockey since I was seven years old. I know that playing hockey has changed my life is because it’s taught me time management, responsibility, discipline, and physical conditioning. One way that hockey has changed my life is it’s made me manage my time better. Every week and weekend I usually have practice on Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Throughout the hardships I faced throughout the season, the love of the game, the heart breaks, and the accomplishments and the goals I’ve achieved I’ve learned that I need to stay humble. If I let every failure get to me I wouldn’t be playing NCAA D1 hockey for Post University, I would probably be back home in Winnipeg wondering what could’ve been if I hadn’t quit over the setbacks. In addition, if I let every achievement get to my head I would be arrogant. With that being said being in competitive sports it taught me some valuable life lessons. Being involved in competitive sports has definitely given me life values that I probably wouldn’t have learned elsewhere.
The same aggression to improve that I put into rising in ranks academically, I also put into my new sport of choice; Tennis. I have been determined to improve as a player and have thrown myself at any opportunity to do so. This drive has helped me transition from the bottom of varsity to the top-ranked male player and team captain both junior and senior years. I may not be playing baseball today, but I have taken the lessons I learned from leading my team and applied them to other aspects of my life, such as my position as Tennis Team Captain.
The prompt for this essay is quite simple: write about how your involvement in sports, community service, leadership, academics, and other extracurricular activities have affected your overall character. However, I feel as though this essay would be better if focused on my career in lacrosse and how it’s changed my life over the past five years, helping me throughout the good and bad, the simple and the challenging. Lacrosse has been a part of my life for about five years now. I started playing when I was in fourth grade, simply because I wanted to branch out and try something new, exciting, and a little bit out of my comfort zone.
There was a boy who went by the name jeffy he liked to play hockey and he was very good at it. He was about 5,10 had blonde hair with brown eyes, Jeffy was not the biggest kid he was pretty skinny. Everyday after school he would go to the Windom Arena and he would skate and practice playing hockey. One day after he was done skating he went upstairs to the dry land room and he was working on his clap bombs and and his top cheese snipes. When all of a sudden he heard a loud horn and a scream so he dropped his pucks and stick and quickly ran down stairs to see what was going on but when he arrived there was no one there.
Failure is not easy to cope with. Failure gives people a sense of apprehension, a lack of confidence that they are not capable of achieving their goals. Although it does not feel the best at the time, this is where success is made. Starting off my ice hockey career at the age of 5 I met many new faces and did not realize at the time that one sport would have such an impact on my life. Through the ups, and the downs, ice hockey has taught me how to be a hard worker, contribute to society, and most of all, how to handle situations when the tide is against you.

In life, people will experience different things that will have an influence on who they are as well as who they will become. These experiences are in direct correlation to future success. Some believe that most of these experiences are outside of one 's own control, such as where he was born, where he goes to school or even a financial situation. While this makes sense, there is one thing that is within one 's control that will greatly increase the likelihood of one 's achievements. Playing sports in high school has a positive impact on future success.
