Araby is a short story written by James Joyce. He used background of the darkness and the narrator’s feelings to show his idea about people’s lives in Irish society. Joyce had the image of a boy growing up in Dublin for a reflection of his own life. The story is about the constant struggle between ideals and reality. The vision of a boy who failed the mission toward Mangan’s sister is bitter and somber like Irish’s lives.
