One question that people often ask is ‘are athletes role models?’ But before you answer the question, you have to define what a role model. Some people believe that the best athletes are role models regardless of their off the field issues and others believe you have to carry yourself well both on and off the field. But, you can't be a role model if you get in legal issues constantly because then you’re not setting a good example and people can't look to you as a good example to imitate. Athletes are childrens top role models these days and when they contribute to great causes off of the field, they can be seen as a great person. Manning, has help his team in countless ways leading them to a Super Bowl championship in 2007. He’s also helped his own cause by racking up five NFL MVP’s the most by any player, ever. The next closest person has three, and Manning is still playing. Manning, is also tied for most all-star game appearances for anyone and the players he’d tied with are all retired so he has the opportunity to break that record this year. Manning is the perfect on field role model for any aspiring young athlete to look up to. With all of those records he’s a perfect example of a future hall of fame player. In his three years as starter of the Florida Gators Tebow won two national championship, two SEC championships, and was a two time All-American and Maxwell Awards winner. Most importantly though, he was the first sophomore to win the Heisman trophy award. The Heisman is awarded to the most outstanding player that year. Many people looked up to Tebow while he was in college and it's easy to see why. He was a winner and that's what people want. People don't look up to losers because the greatest sports role models always make their team better and win, in their prime at least. While in college Tebow was so looked up to because he was doing things no one had ever done before like winning the Heisman as a sophomore and throwing for and rushing for twenty touchdowns in the same seasons.
