When confronted with a moral dilemma, humans are put into a deciding moment in life to choose between the honorable decision or to satisfy their own desires. In William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies, he characterizes human nature as being more ominous than benign by giving a society an unprecedented problem, which gives insight on the dominance and selfish behaviors that relate to Animal Farm and the terrible time of World War 2 (WW2), giving evidence of portraying human nature as evil. In the Lord of the Flies, Golding sets the scene of many boys being dropped on a deserted island, only to be able to rely on each other to maintain survival. At first, Jack seems to be a very civilized child with no intention of harming anyone or causing havoc because he is still sticking to his morals and rules from back at home. The irony of this statement is what happens to Jack later in the novel after being on the island for longer as he starts to lose sight of his old self. After a meeting about the beast, Jack yells, “Bollocks to the rules! We’re strong – we hunt! If there’s a beast, we’ll hunt it down! We’ll close in and beat and beat and beat!” (Golding 91). Jack is now rebelling against the rules that the boys had made on the island for everyone, yet when they first got there, he was saying how important it was to obey and maintain the rules.
