During life everyone makes mistakes and will get a chance to redeem themselves. In the passage “Incidents in the life of a Slave Girl” by Harriet Jacobs and The Red Badge of Courage by John Hutson both have different themes throughout them. The different ones that stick out are coming of age, courage, and responsibilities. There is one more theme that stands out to me the most between the both of them. Redemption shows up alot in both of them and you can compare them better with this. Both authors aim to physical redemption, mental redemption and religious redemption. Physical redemption was shown between both the story and the movie . In The Red Badge of Courage, Henry knew that if he wanted to be a brave soldier he was going to have to step up …show more content…
That’s when Henry had a big turn around and would take charge, by grabbing the flag from the dead person. In their last battle Henry didn’t care what was going to happen to him, he took it into his own hands to start pushing the enemy defense to let everyone know that this is a different Henry from the beginning. Harriet shows physical redemption in”Incidents in the life of a Slave Girl” in a very big and powerful way. When Harriets owner asks her to be his mistress and she refuses, it upsets him and he sends her off to a plantation and that is when she starts to think. Harriet knew that if she didn’t think of a way to get out of this place her kids were going to be treated badly and become slaves. That’s when she ran away and hiding in the attic, this would then lead to her father of her children buying their kids, and getting them out of the danger that they didn’t need. They would later on move up north and this allowed them to have a better life. The movie showed very good ways of where there was mental redemption.Henry was struggling alot and didn’t know what he should do with his life at all at one point.Right after Henry had ran away and hid from bad because he was to scared of what was going on …show more content…
So when Harriet got hit with the gun in the head it gave him all of the confidence in the world because he finally had a battle wound, then he would later finally get his shot at redemption when he didn’t back down from shooting the gun and fired until there was not a single enemy left in his sights. Spiritual redemption sparks up a little bit in the story we read, and it just was amazing by how it was shown.Harriet would go into talking about how she was obviously hiding to keep her kids safe but was possible without god. Harriet was viciously praying in the attack during the night of the hiding, asking for him to practically lead her to the right way. When she begins her journey of leaving the attic Harriet asks god one more time for protection and guidance over her. She eventually would eventually make it to the house where she knew that God had guided her the way he wanted her to go and that everything would progressively get better. That is when her boyfriend/kids dad would buy the kids and they would move up north and this is showing how god truly worked in her life and helped no matter what he was always by her
