Argument Against Assault Weapons

The most talked about topic in the news and around the world is assault weapons and how they are used to harm others. Guns and other weapons have been abused by many people and it is becoming a tragic problem. Guns were designed for specific people who have the right to handle a dangerous weapon, such as, soldiers, police officer, etc. and it seems as if that law has been destroyed. Assault Weapons should be banned from people who are not eligible to handle these types of instruments.
Assault weapons have helped attacks to our country and other countries in the world. The list reaches back decades: the killing of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics in 1972; the school takeover in Beslan, Russia, in 2004; the attacks in Mumbai, India, in …show more content…

Street gangs try to steal childhoods from innocent children. It is a disappointing experience for parents and family members when their young child is now apart of the crucial society of gangs and gun violence. In El Salvador, there is an estimated 60,00 gang members out of 6,5 million people living there. An article called, ‘Tin-Cup Gangs of El Salvador,’ states that, “Their violence costs El Salvador $4 billion a year, according to a study by the country's Central Reserve Bank.” Children should be able to live their lives as young kids. Some believe it is for the purpose of self defense. It is okay to have self defense, but not to the point where someone needs to be carrying around an AK-47 for “self defense.” An AK-47 is the most commonly used assault weapon in the world. A relative of the AK-47 is AR-15 which is also most commonly used for attacks and homicides. An article written by C.J. Chivers, concludes that, “Often the rifles are variants of the AK-47, the world's most abundant firearm, an affordable and simple-to-use assault rifle of Soviet lineage that allows a few people to kill scores and menace hundreds, and fight head-to-head against modern soldiers and police forces” (Chivers).
It is time to get completely rid of assault weapons. They are the leading cause of terrorist attacks and homicides. Families are left in tears and depression from losing a family member from being murdered, or even committing the crime themselves. If assault weapons were banned, no one would be in fear or terrorist invading their country, or murderers roaming the streets looking for someone to kill, just to kill. It is getting out of control and it needs to be stopped.
