Should citizens be allowed to own assault weaponry?
I think this is a difficult question to answer because this topic could go in several directions. I actually think that in answering this question we will address other areas of gun control as well. Yes, citizens should be allowed to own assault weaponry for protection of self, protection of state, and the furthering of American interests. Assault weaponry could help protect Americans as individuals. There are many dangers in our country, and dying from gun violence is one of them. I believe that one of the best ways for one to protect himself from a gun is to own one himself. We should not have to rely on the government for our personal security; that gives the government too much power over us. The police can’t be everywhere at once. There quite possibly can be dangerous times where it is crucial for a gun owner to use his weapon in self-defense. The Second Amendment states that we have the right to bear arms for the security of a free State. As citizens of a nation, we have a responsibility to serve our country, even if it means killing our enemies. Terrorism has become a big problem for the United States over the past years, and I believe people with assault weapons could help prevent some dangers of terrorist attacks in the country. Also, just the presence of civilian assault rifles in America could act as a deterrent against organized crime and terrorism. There was a story during World War II, that said that Japan was considering attacking the American west coast. However, they decided against it, because too many men in the US owned guns. Japan did not want to fight an army the size of the nation. Just the presence of our guns stopped a potential Japanese invasion of the
