Assault weapons are Semiautomatic weapons that are usually used in the military due to their advanced features. The difference between a Semiautomatic weapon and a regular pistol is that semiautomatic guns reload automatically and can fire consistently (Assault Weapons). Gangsters might be gone ,but criminals are still around and they use assault weapons for their preference of mass murdering. Assault weapons should be banned. Assault weapons are far more dangerous than other guns. They shoot nearly a thousand bullets in a few seconds. This makes them more deadly than several handguns or other firearms that are not automatic.
There’s no point in banning all sorts of guns at this point in time and everyone should know how to use this “self-defence” weapon efficiently. You can place a gun, a knife or a bat all side by side, none of them are going to do anything until someone picks them up to use them! The tragic shooting at Newtown reminded us not only of the need for gun control but also mental health support. From the day each individual graduates from this seven-day training period, every child will be required to carry assault rifles at all times of the day, whether it be in school, at the mall, or at home, in order to ensure the best protection. However, I am not an unreasonable person.
But what should be done about assault weapons? There should be no reason for homeowners and everyday citizens to own such things as an AR-15 or a Machine Gun. Assault weapons should not be permitted in the US. The majority of assault weapons that are used for these shootings are acquired legally by shooters. In some of the most recent major attacks, “killers in Las Vegas and Orlando attacks… walk into gun shops and legally purchase assault weapons” (Ingraham).
Multiple people live in certain environments where they need these types of weapons to protect them. By banning assault weapons this might ruin their entire life. On the “New York Post”, they state banning of assault weapons is nothing but a symbolism and will not be a difference. The article states this because even if assault weapons were to ban, there will still be handguns and all types of firearms out there. Americans who had an assault weapon before, will still continue to have it.

Other states such as Georgia have discussed the topic on concealed carry but very very will vote for it because they feel students and faculty are not ready for such a big responsibility.

Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
Solutions can be made to help the problems with death by guns in the United States, this in term may fix the problems with the second amendment. One solution that may help the situation of the second amendment is the accessibility to certain guns .Many mass shootings include military-style weapons ,such as assault rifles, which are more powerful than normal guns and prove to be highly lethal. In an article by Infobase Learning called "Assault Weapons: Should the government restrict access to assault weapons?" done in 2016 it talks about what happened in the Sandy Hook Elementary mass shooting it states, “...20-year-old Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 people, including 20 children aged 6 and 7, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, before killing himself. Earlier in the day, Lanza had killed his mother, a gun enthusiast, and taken several of her assault weapons, which he used in his rampage.”
Ever since the inception of this country 240 years ago, guns have been an integral part of the American identity; a sense of lawlessness, individualism, personal autonomy and freedom. They were the tools that liberated us, and gave us independence over a tyrannical, unrepresentative empire. However, in more recent years, these tools have been used more and more frequently in mass shootings, some of which are occurring at schools, targeting teachers and children. Since the infamous shooting at Columbine High School 19 years ago, we have had several shootings at schools, and we tend to get “thoughts and prayers”, a gesture with good intentions, but little actual progress made. This problem can be contributed to the increasing power of guns, and a lack of mental health coverage, gun
