With this anecdote, Talbot shows the audience of the competitiveness of valedictorian. This instance at Saratoga exhibits the extremes that students will go to gain that spot on the podium, without questioning their methods to reach them. Similarly, other students such as Audrey Lin “cheated to get to the top in high school”(231). These unethical methods to attain valedictorian have caused trouble among those competing for it; subsequently, parents like those of Stephanie Klotz “complained first to the principal, then… to the school board”(228).
Being part of one of the nations top schools is a great honor. One who attends any of these schools wants to learn and wants to make a lasting impact. It’s not the case with students who attend Harvard. “Harvard,
She includes the corruptness nature of the students trying to achieve valedictorian status, and states the unfairness within it without directly stating her opinion. By staying unbiased but informative, the author is easily able to state her opinion indirectly. As part of the proposal, I wrote a concise, detailed document that included tentative guideline of events. In addition, I researched and formulated bylaws with enhanced requirements for admission into the society to fit the standard of high-achieving students at Westlake. An honor code or honor system is a set of rules or principles governing a community based on a set of rules or ideals that define what constitutes honorable behavior within that community. An honor code implements a set code that specifies certain rules in their school. An honor code doesn’t benefit students trust in their school system. An honor code can end up making students engage in mistrust, create misuse of the code, and can cause students to be at odds with each other. When students are forced to commit to an honor code, every student isn’t going to be 100% honest.
Subsequently, the attempts made by schools with honor codes to promote the value of academic integrity have proven that when properly implemented, an honor code can be highly
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a notoriously prestigious organization, and it is possibly one of the greatest honors a student can earn in their high school career. Becoming a member of the NHS can open many doors for students, including leadership experience and opportunities for college scholarships. Admission for this program is based on certain ideals. The criteria for admission-scholarship, service, character, and leadership-are four areas in which, at least I believe, I excel. Even when I was a young child, I was very concerned with school.
Honor systems had become fully integrated part of student self-governance at institutions by the 1900s and are still around today (May, 2010, p.

The honor code is used to keep students from making bad decisions educational wise, for example, cheating and plagiarism, therefore, the honor is used to keep students inside the behavioral codes that the honor code has to offer. I am very proud and grateful to say that I have been given the privilege of qualifying to join the National Honor Society. It would be, naturally, an honor to be a part of such a prestigious institution. However, to do so, one must epitomize its five tenets: character, responsibility, leadership, scholarship and service. Being an avid member in the community, I have grown to embody these traits. My experience and upholding of the fundamentals of character, leadership, scholarship, responsibility, and service will readily employ me to play a part in continuing the legacy that the National Honor Society possesses Though I am an active theatre-goer, I know that character is more than a part or role in a play.
The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars; Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Scholarship is one of the most important pillars to me. Scholarship means not only doing well in school and getting good grades, but applying what I have learned and using it everyday. I know the importance of education and feel that I am a lifelong learner. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in a family where education is a priority.
It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be among the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”. Through my relentless hard work and perseverance, I believe that I possess the four characteristics of a National Honor Society member- leadership, service, character, and scholarship.
