The scene that I relate to in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is when Huck is trying to get away from the Duke and the King. The quote that I found for this part in the book was when huck was talking to Mary Jane and he said “ It’s a rough gang, them two frauds, I’m fixed so I got to travel with them a while longer...”(187). This quote shows that Huck has figured out that the Duke and King are not good people and that he knows that he will still be with them for a little while longer.

When slaves were introduced as characters in books, they were always negative, stereotypical characters, but not until 1883 when Mark Twain wrote The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was a change made. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a book about a southern white boy in the 1800’s that runs away with an escaped slave on the Mississippi River. For years, schools have been debating on if the book should be banned in schools or not, and it is already on a variety of banned lists. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should not be banned in schools because it is an anti-slavery novel that teaches students valuable lessons and informs students of the past culture.
In the sixth chapter of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain manipulates the reader’s opinion of racism by using Pap, an antagonist to display his attitude towards the subject. Twain expertly uses the character Pap to explain his viewpoint using circumstance and the structure of his speech to make the idea of racism distasteful, uncomfortable, and even absurd to the reader. Before the initial speech Twain sets up Pap as a horrible father, a chronic alcoholic, and a liar. These qualities followed by Pap’s actions establish a permanent animosity towards the character and what he stands for leading the reader to inherently disagree with everything he says. This was taken place before the Civil War, when slavery was still legal. When Huck Finn and Jim meet, even though Jim is a slave, they connect immediately. Their friendship grows stronger and stronger as the novel continues, it got to the point where Jim was not only a friend, but a father figure to Huck.

In general, I don’t believe that juveniles can be born evil or bad. Environmental factors carry a lot of weight when it comes to how children develop and grow into adults. However, in the uniquely gritty case of Willie Bosket, I believe it’s safe to say that if there were ever a case of a child being “born bad”, then Willie definitely meets the mark. When looking back at his lengthy family history filled with extreme deviance and outright violence, you can quite easily see that Willie fits right into the mold that was created long before he was even born.
