Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.
In the Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls analyzed her mother’s emotional breakdowns. In one instance, she notices “... the positive thoughts would give way to negative thoughts, and the negative thoughts seemed to swoop into her mind the way a big flock of black crows takes over the landscape, sitting thick in the trees and on the fence rails and lawns, staring at you in ominous silence” (Walls 418). Negative thoughts can consume one’s mind, whereas the positive thoughts are nugatory. The negative thoughts keep a person agonizing and stressing over it. This quote emphasizes how a negative mindset can make a person depressed or ill to be around.
Life for the Union Soldier was not only brutal on the battlefield, but the camp life for a Union soldier was just as cruel. With the lack of personal hygiene, unsavory and repugnant food, and the shortage of clothing made living, a very difficult thing to do. Growth in the number of people with diseases was also a contributing factor to the massive amounts of death within the camp and as well as the post-battle wounds that often left either a man with one less limb or put in a mental institution. A Union Soldier’s life during the Civil War was cruel and horrific during their stay at the camps.
Frederick Douglass knew that the war would not be fought by only white men as soon as the Confederate cannons fired on Fort Sumter. At the beginning the white soldiers were reluctant to Blacks fight the war, but after the death toll became too much they finally caved in. When this happened many free blacks went and joined the Union army. This made Douglass happy since he saw justice in fighting the confederacy with free blacks.
The most a 14 year old boy should have to worry about in 1838 is what chores he has that night, and how long each is going take him so that he can get back to whatever reckless things he feels like doing that day. But, not this time. Andrew Jackson the white president for the next 4 years decided he wants what is ours. He has started sweeping everyone and everything east of the Mississippi river, just because he wanted the land, and if we wouldn’t willingly walk away from what’s ours, he will make us at gunpoint. In this time, families got split up and people died.
In life some feel the need to prove something to others. That they are better, stronger, or even more intelligent. Whatever the case may be people will go through extreme measures to prove themselves. But who do we really need to prove anything to? Is it our parents?
Before South Dakota was admitted into the US, It was Sioux land and many other Native tribes land. “The Sioux and the Cheyennes became allies, and by the end of the 18th century, the Sioux had driven away other groups and claimed the Black Hills as sacred land, believing that they were the homeland they were destined to find” (Andrew Mathews 2015, p.10). How was South Dakota even included in the US? Well according to (Andrew Mathews 2015), the US government made false promises about the hills and has kept them ever since. Many Native Americans are not happy with this and just want their land back.

In the NAACP document it states “ … If the methods have any single common denominator, it is that the have always been non-violent. Today non-violence is stridently challenged on the premise that Negroes must defend themselves when attacked. “ If the approach of non-violence has worked for six decades
The city of Knoxville economically started to hurt shortly after Lehman Brothers crashed in September 2008. Knoxville struggled through a recession, but other cities were hurt more than Knoxville. In 2009-10, the city hit its trough and the economy hit a low-point. In the following years following the recession, the economy and real estate have slowly gained momentum and continue to rise. In the next couple of years, the city is projected to surpass where they were before the Lehman Brothers crashed.
It took just forty five days for United States citizens to acquiesce their rights to freedom and privacy for the sake of safety following the events of September 11, 2001. Forty five days is how long it took the United States Congress to pass a law that gave up the very concept of liberty upon which this country is founded. The morning sky was a brilliant shade of blue with not a cloud in sight in New York on that fateful day of September. That all changed at 8:45 AM when a Boeing 767 jet plane tore into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Eighteen minutes later, a second Boeing 767 bit into the sixtieth floor of the south tower.
As my eyes are filled with smoke while I lie on my “bed” of straw in the hut with twelve other soldiers, I knew it would be difficult to stay and fight for the freedom of various others and myself. Conditions here at Valley Forge are frightening. Food is scarce and sickness and smoke is in the air. We have been here since winter, and I miss my family a great amount. I have decided to re-enlist in fighting for the release of the control of Britain, because of the continuing decreasing numbers of soldiers, I have pride and hope in the colonies, and I desire to earn the freedom for myself and my fellow people in the colonies.
