Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. Though the Alabama Constitution of 1875 came seven short years after the adoption of the previous state constitution, it came under much different circumstances. The Alabama Constitution of 1868 is known as the “reconstruction constitution” because Congress unofficially required the proper changes to be made to the 1865 constitution to be granted their seats in Congress. The United States constitution and the North Carolina constitution were both created to initiate a form a government at their own levels, and to give those governments specific powers. Both constitutions have similar outlines of their executive, legislative, and judicial branches, and include an article that secures the rights of citizens through the legal systems. Although they bear conspicuous similarities, such as structure, the state and U.S. constitutions do exhibit differences as well. Possibly the most recognizable distinction between the two constitutions is that the North Carolina constitution has a basis of religion. The preamble states that the people of North Carolina are “grateful to Almighty God, the Sovereign Ruler of Nations”.

Slavery through the eyes of activists On December fifteenth, in eighteen sixty-five, the United States abolished slavery with the thirteenth amendment. Powerful individuals such as Frederick Douglass, David Walker, Nat Turner, Sojourner Truth, and Benjamin Banneker were people that longed to see the day that they would be free from slavery. Although these five individuals were never in contact with one another they all shared the same drive and motivation to change the way people viewed slavery for the better. These individuals accomplished their goal of changing slavery with a strong belief in god, a strong political voice and a light in them that never died.
Freedom. The importance of freedom is often forgotten as Americans live day by day taking this gift for granted. In this day and age, freedom seems as a “simple gift’ obtained by every American, but one forgets to think about those who were once unable to enjoy the freedoms one is promised daily. Back in the day, freedom seemed as nothing more than a dream to those of color. Everyday of a colored person’s life consisted of harassment and discrimination as no one cared to treat them as equals.
