Cuba’s Education Cuba is a communist country which gives both a positive and negative effect on the countries education. Cuban students are constantly dealing with harsh obstacles that gets in the way of their education, and yet Cuba manages to be be one of the most highly educated countries in the world.
Since Cuba has a communist government system, it allows students to receive free education for all courses including college. Cuban children are very privileged and are provided with free lunch and school uniforms as well. Free education causes major shortages in economy which means that there is less pay for most teachers. The majority of teachers will quit their job do to the low amounts of pay and they are later replaced with teachers who are hardly qualified for the job. Which makes an impact on the quality of their education. (Ravsberg). Another issue that comes with Cuba having low amounts of money is that there are “constant food shortages, electricity blackouts, and telephone breakdowns” that may sometimes get in the way of Cuban learning. (Britannica)
School is also mandatory and is guaranteed for every Cuban child. “No Cuban child is denied an education, not even those who live in remote areas of the country, are very poor, or have special learning needs” (Ravsberg). Cuban children from the ages six to fourteen are required to go to school. “Education in Cuba is mandatory until the ninth grade of secondary School” (Mandrapa). There is no missing in Cuba.
