The United States constitution is often considered one the greatest documents written in history. James Madison crafted the basis of the United States, with the principles that outlines the “supreme law of the United States” ( ). This would have not been possible without such a calculated and efficient document. The constitution outlines the functions of the United States government, a system which consists of three branches; the legislative, judicial, and executive branch. This creates a system of checks and balances where one branch oversees the other two and attempt to detain them from abusing their powers.
Mexican Americans have immigrated and emigrated to Americas since before the Mexican American war of 1848. Immigration of Chicanos has been happening for a very long time, but the only difference is that it is now becoming a problem. Before the border was created Mexicans would legally cross to America, with no immigration problems, until 1924. When the border was created, Mexicans and Chicanos no longer has access to their old Chicano lives. Children continue to illegally be brought to America in search of better opportunities.

There is an average of 700,000 illegal citizens who enter every year (Cairco.org). Immigration is important to the prosperity of our country. However, the government needs to take the proper steps to ensure that each immigrant enters legally.
Despite the multiple attempts at creating a well-rounded immigration reform the United States has failed to achieve the full capacity of the reform. The United States first failure at the reform was in 1986 when congress passed the “Immigration Reform and Control Act”. The purpose of this legislation was to amend, revise, and re-assess the status of unauthorized immigrants set forth in the Immigration and Nationality Act. The content of this bill is overwhelming and is divided into many sections such as control of unauthorized immigration, legalization and reform of legal immigration.
When it comes to the topic of immigration, most of us will readily agree that something needs to be done to improve the immigration system. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of how to fix a broken system. Whereas some are convinced that we need to militarize our border and secure it, others maintain that there should be some form of amnesty given to those who are already here in the U.S. illegally. Although it is wrong and illegal to enter the U.S. illegally many Latinos still continue to do so and this is where the debate of immigration reform and policy comes into play. It appears that neither side of this debate has a concrete solution to this problem.
Millions of people are always crossing the borders of the United States as immigrants. To curb illegal immigration in 1986, the then government under the stewardship of President Ronald Reagan established the Immigration Reform and Control Act. It provided amnesty to all skilled illegal immigrants who were in the country before 1 January 1982 (Hanson, 2005, p. 347). The amnesty period was to last until 1988. By the end of the amnesty period, more than 3 million illegal immigrants had successfully applied for amnesty (Hanson, 2005, p. 347).
To the people who live here in the united states hearing illegal immigrants, they automatically think “mexicans” or as should be called hispanics. To those who known that they are coming here illegally or know that they are already here, they know them as hard workers, family oriented people, people who want better than what they had in their country. The united states is not really impacted by illegal immigration in a way that they make it sound. They are the ones who are helping the U.S. in jobs no one want to do as in working in the farms and picking crops.

According to the city of El Paso international the three bridges that connects El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, operate 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Thousands of people cross both ways over the border every day.

The Immigration and Nationality Act became known as McCarran-Walter Act law which was passed as a result of an unfair quota system. By 1965, the Immigration Act was passed to eliminate national quotas and limit annual immigration. This law greatly changed the ethnic and demographic temperament in the United States.

Matt O’Brien stated in his article “The government thinks that 10.8 million illegal immigrants lived in the country in January 2009, down from a peak of nearly 12 million in 2007.”(Para, 2) While some argue that illegal immigrants burden the United States of America and its economy, others believe that they have become essential and are an important part of the US, economy.
