Ever since I was in seventh grade, I’ve heard many things about the Holocaust. I even had to do a power point project where my topic was genocide for my English class. Nobody really knows how many genocides there have been in the world. It’s hard to choose which one to compare and contrast because they’re all so awful, but I think I’m going to choose one a little closer to home. The Native American genocide started in 1492 when Christopher Columbus landed his ships here in America. It’s also known as the “500 years war” and “the longest Holocaust known ever known.” When Christopher Columbus sat foot on this country and started importing and exporting goods, the Native Americans were also getting sick with smallpox for which there was no cure. …show more content…
Well for one thing, many Jews were dying of diseases and starvation, as well as being killed by German officers. The Native Americans weren’t dying of starvation, but they were being killed by Europeans who wanted to claim the territory. Now, the first comparison I am going to state is how they were killed. Both of the genocides killed people by disease and officers in a country’s military. My second comparison is going to be that they were both considered “undesirable.” United States leaders never said the word “undesirable,” but they did say that Native Americans got in the way of American progress and issued the “Indian Removal Act” of 1831. My third and last comparison is that they both entailed millions of innocent people dying. The Jewish Holocaust had eleven million people who died, including non-Jewish people. No one really knows how many Native Americans died, but I believe that it has to be more than 2
