Border security has been and issue facing Texas for a prolonged time. Due to recent disputes, this year by President-elect Donald Trump, border security has increased in the United States. This problem has affected my community in such a great scale noting that I live in the border city of Brownsville. In a city with Hispanic heritage running through every corner of the city, many have considered border patrol agents as the villains that are trying to get rid of Mexicans due to the racist comments made by Donald Trump. But that is really not the case at all. “ The border is why taxpayers pay high taxes. If one mile of fencing cost the government one million dollars, where do you think the government is getting that money? The wall is the reason why U.S is dividing, because taxpayers did not want this debt for the country and for themselves.” much this was true in a way, considering that the government did put this useless debt on the people of the U.S. Maybe the percentage of people immigrating to the U.S. has decreased, but that does not mean people still do not come in. in my opinion, border security is not working and it is costing people money. Furthermore, border security makes the community feel uncomfortable. Many who live in my city are or know people who live in the U.S. illegally. This also starts to jam the economy in the city because those people are not contributing by buying products and services. In addition, border security makes the people of my city feel entitled to “assimilate” to the American culture and beliefs. Like stated above, the city has the Hispanic culture everywhere you go. It feels unfair that people have to think,feel, and be like an American and to forget the culture they grew up and are used to.
