Cheerleading Should be Considered a Sport! A 17-year old who was very injured in a terrible cheerleading accident, went back to it just after her accident. Most cheerleaders continuously have strains, dislocations, muscle sprains, and fractures during competitions and practices. Cheerleading should officially be a sport because it takes a lot of work and should be taken seriously. First, cheerleading takes a lot of work. According to The BFA Mercury, it states, "Cheerleading has been evolving since 1898, and getting more difficult with participants coming up with new techniques and skills," (Hayden). Many people say that cheerleading is so easy when it is not. It takes so much work to just be at practice more than competitions because they have to work twice as hard. The text states, "Cheerleaders compete in multiple competitions, including Nationals, which is where top teams from all over the nation come together to compete for the top spot," (“The Delphi | Why cheerleading is a sport”). According to Worlds Ultimate, if the IOC (the International Olympic Committee) got more votes saying yes than opposed, they would finally be able to compete in the olympics. If the committee gets more votes, cheerleading can finally compete nationally. In the article, it states, "Also, cheer was originally standing on the sidelines at games and being entertainment for the audience to get them excited and wasn't considered a sport"(Hayden).
