Dog’s vs. Wolves Wolves and dogs may look the same, but in actuality, behavior and instincts of their species are a major difference. While dogs are enjoyable sociable animals, wolves are wild animals and do not have the mentality to socialize with humans nor live out of their natural habitat. Their differences start with their hunting abilities, life expectancy, affection, domestication and social existence. While wolves all look the same, other than different colored coats, dogs do not. Dogs come in a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. Dogs tend to have shorter snouts, smaller teeth and smaller brains while wolves have larger, wider skulls with a longer snout and a bigger brain, making wolves larger than dogs and having the perfect physical characteristics for hunting and protecting themselves. Dogs have the mentality of a pup and never grow up. They are trained by other people and told what to do. Wolves grow up and mature after 2 to 3 year of age, and become more aggressive and they will attack anything that is an alert to them. When people domesticate wolves they have a tendency to attack their owners because wolves are not destined to be kept as pets. Wolves lack the ability to listen to their trainers and tend to ignore their commands. They are more likely to respond when the trainer uses hand signals than using their voice. Wolves generally need motivation, such as food, to do what they are asked while dogs do what they are told to do. Even though wolves are trainable, they don’t have the same unit of tractability that dogs have. Dogs depend on humans to survive and desire us rather than their own kind. Even if they are stray dogs, they look for humans and for food they go through our garbage
