Euthanasia in the United States
In as little as ten days, a law can be passed in the United States. In that short amount of time, a law that would allow a person to die with the assistance of a trained physician could be passed. That law would be passing what is known as euthanasia. Euthanasia is a highly controversial practice that is illegal in the majority of the country. Euthanasia is looked at as a humane way to die by some people; however, this act also is criticized for its scientific and religious aspects.

Some patients can become so desperate to receive euthanasia they will partake in suicide tourism. Suicide tourism is where you travel to a whole different country to die (Popik.) That there shows that people can make these decisions but they cannot back out as easily. There are people who have stayed in the country and constantly change their mind about wanting to kill themselves. In fact, the people who have changed their mind to stay alive have lived happy lives and made that awful decision when they were at a very low point in their life (Gifford 32). Although, it is not always the patient’s judgement that may be mistaken. People should expect their doctors to maintain pain and encourage the patient without having to preform suicide (The Debate). On the other hand, though in a research in The British Medical Journal in the year of 1996 is states “Out of forty patients thought to be in Persistent Vegetative State by doctors, seventeen were later found to be aware and able to express simple wishes.” (Gifford 33). This shows that seventeen people could have made a decision to end their life under pretexts by the doctor, which would have been a horrible
