Have you ever thought about how difficult it might be to go into a different country knowing absolutely nothing, not even language, and something horrific happened to you or anyone in your family? Don’t you think you would feel so powerless, so helpless, so clueless? This happens commonly and it has never had any attention brought to it, at least not until 1998. Anne Fadiman wrote a book entitled, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. This demonstrated a collision of two complete opposite cultures, but they both have the same goal to help the child get better.
When people are forced into unbearable conditions, they often must abandon those they love so they can use their strength for their own survival. In the camp, there was a man named Rabbi Eliahou who was there with his son. When they first arrived, they made sure to keep each other very close, as well as they cared for each other. However, after the prisoners went on a long march in freezing temperatures, the rabbi’s son noticed that his father was getting weak. This forced him to make a very difficult decision, which was whether or not to abandon him.
It pains me to say that I will not have the satisfaction of giving each and every one of those people who escaped or not the credit and appraisal that they so dutifully deserve. No, in this essay I will be focusing on three people, each with their own hardships and their own “imprisonments”, whether those “imprisonments” were literal or not; they deserve to be appraised. All three of these people contrast against each other greatly but, at the same time have immense comparisons. For example, all three of these people are minorities but, only two of them are male.
After going through so much, many people do not have the same mindset as they did before. Being tortured and watching others being tortured changes a person’s life, especially Elie’s, his father’s, Moshe the Beadle’s, and Rabbi Eliahou’s. Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, shares his own experience of going through a concentration camp, and it is clear that many things in his life changed
It is believed that that the way to be human being is to be humane but as we look down to our history it is crystal clear that humans have brought much pain, suffering and crisis to other humans. In a crisis, people respond in different ways that reveal characteristics of human nature. In the short story, This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen, Tadeusz Borowski has narrated his experience in a concentration camp during the Second World War. Borowski who is a kommando in the camp encounters different kinds of people who show characteristics like bravery, fear, empathy, brutality and many more. Patience is the most important characteristics one can possess.
Imagine if you were born into a country filled with poverty, fear, anxiety, despair and sorrow. The pain and suffering you would go through every day was so violent that you and your family had given up on all measures of hope. Every day you would fear persecution and you couldn’t even feel safe in the comfort of your own home. But what if there was a sliver of hope of escaping this drama occurring in your homeland by leaving by boat. All this drama gone in a flash, wouldn’t you want to try?
In “The Little School” by Alicia Partnoy, Alicia shares brief memories from her time as a prisoner in an Argentinian concentration camp. These memories share the experiences and thoughts of Alicia as she spends her time blindfolded with other prisoners in a room,Waiting for anything to happen, with the constant threat of torture and death lingering in the air. In these experiences, Alicia demonstrates the recurring idea of “helping those who need it is more important than helping yourself”. An example of Alicia helping others is shown in the chapter “Latrine”.

It’s difficult to imagine the way humans brutally humiliate other humans based on their faith, looks, or mentality but somehow it happens. On the novel “Night” by Elie Wiesel, he gives the reader a tour of World War Two through his own eyes , from the start of the ghettos all the way through the liberation of the prisoners of the concentration camps. This book has several themes that develop throughout its pages. There are three themes that outstand from all the rest, these themes are brutality, humiliation, and faith. They’re the three that give sense to the reading.
Some countries are open and actively working to promote well-being through charity and acts to achieve justice. In opposition some countries are not willing to take on the responsibilities of letting displaced people into their borders. After seeing the lifestyle displaced people face each day the film encouraged me to do what I can to spread awareness about the unsteady world refugees face. I know that I would have a difficult time living like a displaced person and I cannot begin to image the fear, sadness, and struggles each day brings. Although, as an individual I do not feel I can achieve much impact, I do believe that sharing the messages presented in the film will bring greater understanding to others and from there a stronger force can be achieved.
The foundations for protecting refugees and migrants are a humane approach to human suffering and adherence to international humanitarian law. An improved screening and resettlement process would also improve the West's muddled response to today's displacement crisis. So, how should be the perfect refugee camp? _______ When for the first time in the human history, the population in the cities has overcome the rural populations [1], we still have thousands of people being forced to do the opposite journey: refugees from urban areas forced to leave everything they have, for a variety of reasons: war, climate, politics and resettle somewhere else: urban areas (Kamel Doräi 2010), rural environments and the "luckiest" ones: in refugee camps.
While identity focuses on uniqueness such as how an individual is different from and similar to others, diversity focuses on the range of the difference and uniqueness such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, among others. Diversity should be seen as source of strength. However, it can also be a source of violence, oftentimes by those who fear or dislike difference. In the best light diversity is foundation for peacebuilding – since it enables us to draw strength and be respectful of difference. Identity and diversity are linked.
Finally, from the Syrian civil war, 250,000 unfortunate people have died. When multitudes of people migrate to one country, that country would, in turn, become extremely pressured. “The pressures caused by massive influxes of people can be overwhelming”(“What's Driving the Global Refugee Crisis?”). Every year, Germany alone spends 21.7 billion dollars on anything which is refugee related, and with oncoming demand in Germany, this number continues to grow higher. The European Refugee Crisis has also displaced nine million Syrians’ homes, making it troublesome for countries to house them.
Anthony J. D 'Angelo. One thing is very clear: these few countries doing their best to help refugees can’t manage the refugee issue on their own. We need global cooperation. Therefore, the only solution is moving on to end the bloodbaths and poverty lakes while simultaneously accepting the humanitarian responsibility of taking in the refugees. Migration is a global issue.
