What does gun control actually control? People should use guns properly; it’s a privilege to be able to own a gun. Getting to hunt and shoot guns are something Americans shouldn’t take for granted. Much of the evidence law enforcement agencies have reinforces evidence that stricter gun laws can be part of the solution. Stricter laws can be enforced, but America has to make sure everyone abides by the laws. The debate on gun control has been going on for years, but the effects of gun control, laws on gun control, and effectiveness of background checks prove America does need gun control. Gun control has changed tremendously over the years. The “National Rifle Association” was founded in 1871, to “promote and encourage rifle shooting.”(Gettings, McNiff) Union soldiers Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingot founded the NRA. The NRA is an association to protect the right of the American people to bear arms. President Franklin D. Roosevelt brought the National Firearms Act of 1934 in because of the lawlessness and the rise of gangster culture that had arisen during that time period. (The Washington Post) He was trying to eliminate the use of Automatic weapons on the streets of America. He also tried to eliminate things like silencers and short barreled firearms.
