Hercules re made by Disney is a modern twist on the ancient Greek myth which portrays a heroic adventure of the great hero Hercules. Hercules or in Greek mythology “Heracles” is the most prominent hero within Greek mythology, which is why we probably still here stories about him today. The Disney version of Hercules portrays in image of him that does not quite match that of the ancient version in the metamorphoses. A number of things have been changed in order to make it more kid friendly, and to depict how we view modern heroes in todays society. However, In the metamorphoses Hercules mom is Alcmene who had her son with Zeus. This would make Hercules not a god but a mortal, but being the son of Zeus he quickly begins to realized he is blessed with many gifts one of those being godly strength. I believe Disney changed this because a hero born as a bastard mortal, is much less appealing than a hero born as a good to two loving parents, but wrongfully being stripped of his immortality by an evil force. In the movie Hercules is constantly trying to find his place in the mortal land of Greece his abilities he has yet to master seem more of a bane to his existence rather than a gift. This leads him to go on a journey to find himself after he realizes he doesn’t belong in regular society. The medal that was left on him as a baby leads him to Zeus’s temple where he finds out who he truly is which leads him to find his master Philoctetes. Philoctetes is a satyr who in the movie had trained great heroes in the past such as Jason, Odysseus, and Achilles. In the ancient Greek mythology of Heracles, this plot is slightly different Hercules is a gifted demi-god who excels in almost everything however is cursed by the jealous Hera which makes his life more difficult than needed to
